PET laser marking

The most common polymer of the family, PET is primarily a colourless resin, and can be semi-rigid to rigid depending on how it is processed. It is lightweight and very strong, being very impact resistant. These properties make it ideal for liquid and food containers such as plastic bottles, it’s most common application. Below, we will explain more about its use and PET laser marking.

PET can be aluminised by evaporating a thin film of metal onto it, which reduces its permeability and makes it reflective and opaque. The qualities make it ideal for applications such as flexible food packaging.

A crystallised PET can be used to make packaging trays and blister packs, ideal for pre-cooked frozen meals as they can withstand both extremely cold (for freezing) and hot (for oven baking) temperatures.

Laser marking with CO2 is ideal for transparent plastic bottles. PET laser marking on opaque materials such as flexible film can be achieved with a wide range of lasers, including Fibre, Green and UV.
